a while ago my computer could not connect to the internet. the problem was that the other 2 computers in my house had internet working fine. i did a system restore thing and i had internet again. however, McAfee, my anti-virus, stopped working. i decided to delete it and download it again. when i deleted it windows security alerts started popping up constantly and told me that i have a virus and that i need to buy it. since i have comcast i can get McAfee for free. however when i try to install it my computer either freezes requiring me to restart it, or it finishes installation without installing anything. my parents called comcast and they said to make a new account so i did and it still didn't work.
can someone help?

McAfee is notorious for thinking its already installed after you have uninstalled it.
Go to the McAfee site. They have a tool that REALLY deletes McAfee and lets you reinstall it. http://service.mcafe...spx?id=TS100507
Then try reinstalling it again.

sorry for the double post.
comcast now uses norton instead of mcaffee. i installed norton. however i can't open it. it says i have to restart my computer which i have done countless times and this still shows up. also i can't use the internet on my computer. i am connected but i can't actually use it. i can even send error reports if something stops responding. the internet works fine on all the other computers in my house.

Sorry I can't be of great help here. I have always had nothing but problems with Norton, from installation to deletion. It never worked right and gummed up every system I had the misfortune to put it on. It is fitting and just that Comcast now uses Norton - they are birds of a feather.
Really the only thing that may help is a total delete of Norton - including a registry clean - and then after reboot, trying a clean install. Often there are registry problems that prevent Virus & protection suites from installing completely.
