I just recently, actually about an hour ago installed XP SP3.
So far, same old crap it was about two hours ago before i updated..

So my question is, was it worth the time to install it??

Well, if it helps in any way, yeah I guess it's worth it. I say the more the merrier.

Hi Viper EM,
I did the same thing to one of my computers also.
If you know how to rip the program open ,In it all that you will see is a tighter firewall, better anti spy ware and upgraded anti spamming program.
It also tweeks your windows operations to run a little bit smoother ( not much to notice).
All in All ,Microsoft is making it easier to upgrade your computer.
If you ever have to Re-Install Windows and and need to upgrade , instead of doing SP1 and SP2 indavidually SP3 covers everything with tighter security.
So all that you have to do is install it once. Instead of 2 times....

everything after sp1 isn't really necessery imo ... if you buy/download a good anti virus / firewall software you've got everything covered

I noticed a couple of things after SP3. First, my email comes through noticeably faster, and second, two competing security programs that used to not play well together now get along just fine.

Could be coincidence, but it all happened right after SP3 installation with no other changes to my system.

The important thing is - it did no harm.

When it comes to Micro$oft that is an important feature!

On a more serious note, if they do their job well most of the things they do will not create noticable changes. The largest thing they provide in updates is closing loopholes. One one hand it would be said that they caused the loopholes in the first place with poor programming. The other side is that Windows being the most common operating system it is also the most scrutinized and attacked. As anyone who knows security well offline will tell you, if someone is determined enough it is unlikely that your security measures will stop them. The goal is to make it harder so that they go to an easier mark. In the case of computers, we used all those fancy utilities and keep updated to plug the leaks and harden the target so that the crooks and cranks go looking for someone stupid enough to run that dialer program or someone without AV software.

The shorter answer is that you likely wouldn't fall victim to something that SP3 plugged or fixed but better to update and throw the lock on the door than to leave it swinging open with a "come on in" sign.

I wonder how many people will notice my "spelling" of Micro$oft the first time around. ;)

Where can I find SP3 for XP anyways, just look in the Microsoft website? Because I could really use it when I get to my mom's house tonight.
