Here's a few more pics of Palisades;

Here's the free stage. I wonder if cousin Brucie from NBC radio will be introducing Frankie Valli or the Everly brothers tonight? The circus restaurant is the wood structure on the left.

The interior of the Circus restaurant. Very simple, but functional.

You have to love those prices!

A nice shot of part of the Midway with the Chairlift and Auto Scooter in the background.

And finally, a shot of the Roll-O-Plane, with the Round Up just coming into view.

You're recreating Palisades Park (1898-1971), eh? If so, that's great! I think Palisades closed at a bad time. It was still popular and would have become a large park! The reason why was because in the mid-70s, amusement parks and rollercoasters were making a comeback. With such popularity, it would have held into the mid-70s.

Well, I agree, except, the gentleman who owned it really wanted to retire and didn't find any buyers, and there was absolutely no land available for expansion. They didn't even have a decent parking lot (relativley speaking). I remember either parking at Acme and taking a bus, or walking quite a distance because it was hard to park on site. And then, the icing on the cake was when Fort Lee changed the zoning on the property. Shortsighted bast....!

But, yeah, what might have been....(sigh)

Palisades had a licensing agreement with several companies, including DC comics and the Harvey Entertainment group. Superman frequently appeared in ads for the park, and Batman had a slide. The Tea Cup ride was named after Harvey's Wendy, the good little witch.

Palisades also had their old tunnel of love, but it was not very popular. They rethemed the ride in the early 1960's as an Arabian Nights ride, but attendance still waned. So in 1968, they went back to Harvey and rethemed the dark ride to make it kid-friendly and themed it after the most popular Harvey character, Casper the Friendly Ghost. It was an immediate success, and remained open for the rest of the park's history.

The facade is incomplete, but gives you some idea of the finished product.
