We are having difficulty with members who have *@aol.* and *@netscape.* email addresses, and who are asking for emails if certain topics or forums are updated, and/or who are asking for emails if people send them PMs.
The problems is, AOL won't accept any email from us.
Therefore, with immediate effect, every hour we are deleting the forum, topic and PM subscriptions of all members who have these type of email addresses.
Members cannot register with these type of email addresses.
We continue to petition AOL about this. There are over 400 members with AOL email addresses.

Oh no! My email address that I've used on this site is an AOL one!. Is there anyway I can change my email-address on here so that I can receive your emails?. That might explain why people on here have sent me e-mails but I never got them at the end. Will MSN hotmail accounts be able to pick up the email?.

Anybody can change their email address at http://forums.rctspa...=UserCP&CODE=08
However, note that an email is sent to the new address that you provide, which you must reply to, so please ensure that its correct, otherwise you are permanently locked out of the boards.
hotmail does not block our email at this time. yahoo does not either.
If you have an email address that looks like any of the those in my posts above, you may like to lobby aol on our behalf to try and fix this problem.

As a former AOL client, I still have an AIM address where mail addressed to my old AOL account goes now, I just sent them a note asking why my mail from this site wasn't being delivered, I'm not sure if I'll get a response, but I asked politely, so will let you know if I get anything from them.

http://en.wikipedia....Certified_email
-That is your answer why mail is not getting through to the AOL servers.
It's only a matter of time before Yahoo starts to implement it...
A mail tax. On bulk senders. On forum driven e-mail addresses.
What does that mean? It makes sites like these harder to send emails when necessary. What does that mean? It is the start of the privatization of the web....

I'm not worried that it will happen, because the user can still reject their "trusted source" emails. The certified email is just another huckster driven scam to skim off the top of the trough, and most people can see right through that.
Except for AOL users though. After all - they ARE AOL users...
That is not our problem - ours is that the IP we inherited has a tainted past. We are paying for the sins of the previous tennants...

OK, our host have successfully persuaded our 2 main stumbling blocks (AOL and SORBS) that our IP is now safe.
As a result, I've stopped the resetting of emails for existing members with aol related email addresses.
I'd welcome anybody with an aol email address to switch back on email notification of PMs, new topics, etc, and let me know whether they are now getting those emails.

Any restrictions placed on AOL members by us have now been lifted, following AOL lifting any restrictions on us.
