Judging VP...a guide for the Judges...
For VP, the judging is broken down into 4 main categories. Each category includes two to four objectives to consider.l. Here are some brief descriptions of what you'’re looking for in each category.
* * * * *
1. "What's There..." Coasters and Rides - 35 pointsThis area covers judging for ride selection, coaster building, over-all themeing of all rides and stations, transportation rides, and selection and placement of all shops and guest services including park entrances.1. On a scale of 1 to 5, rate the selection of rides (mix of gentle, thrill, coasters and transportation rides).This one just focuses on one thing...the rides. Is there a nice balance between coaster types? Maybe the park has 12 steel roller coasters but no wooden ones, or maybe the opposite...do the choices made fit in with the over-all theme of the park? Does the park have a good balance of thrill and flat rides to balance out the coasters, or is it just a coaster park? Are transportation rides used properly to move guests around the park?
2. On a scale of 1 to 10, rate the themeing used for all ridesHow are rides themed? Do they fit into the overall theme of the park, or stick out like a sore thumb? Are stations themed to match the ride, or left plain? Is the themeing used to tempt your peeps to give the ride a try?
3. On a scale of 1 to 20, rate the coasters and tracked rides in this park.–Were the coasters and/or tracked rides designed well? Are they pleasing to the eye or do they take away from the experience? Are they paced well? Does it crawl through anything? If blocked, does the blocking system work or does it stop on the lift or MCBR? Again these are all questions you'’re asking yourself while noticing the rides.
2. "How It Looks..." Park Appearance - 35 pointsIncludes overall park layout, appropriate terraforming and water features, landscaping and architecture.1. On a scale of 1 to 5, rate the overall park layout Is the park laid out well? Well that’s kind of general, isn’t it? This is a really hard area to explain but is one of the most crucial to the judging process. Does the park flow? Do the areas flow well into each other? Does the layout make sense? Even a historical park that has expanded over the years will show signs that flow and layout have been considered. This is hard to explain, but I think inside everyone can tell if a park is well laid out or not.
2. On a scale of 1 to 10, rate the park's landscaping including the appropriateness of terraforming and water features to the Park's themeLandscaping includes the natural look of the land, plants and trees, and non-structural parts of the park. Is the park one big flat area, or does the landscaping fit the theme? The main question to ask yourself is “does the landscaping fit the style and theme of the park?” If it’s a jungle and it’s flat, that doesn’t fit. But if it’s supposed to be a city or western area, a lot of times flat areas fit well with that particular theme. If terraforming has been done, is it appropriate to the park? Is it blocky or consist of nothing but tall spires? Are water features such as lakes, rivers and waterfalls done in a manner that contributes to the over-all theme of the park?
3. On a scale of 1 to 10, rate the park's architectureThe structures in the Park. Are they detailed or is it blocky? Is it interesting or is it bland? Does it add to the area? Is it more than just one color? Is there any or is there enough? Does it fit with the over-all theme of the Park? Does it fill the needs on your park's visitors and staff? All these things you'’re looking for in good architecture in a park. If it looks good, it is good, pretty much.
4. On a scale of 1 to 10, rate the park's overall theme and how well it is carried outThis an important element. How is the park themed? Do they carry out the theme well or does it have flaws? Everything is a theme, even if it’s a realistic park. Did they carry out the theme they were going for well, or do you feel they missed certain important aspects? If it’s a tropical park, using a ton of black and a few bright colors really doesn'’t fit the theme well.
3. "How It Works..." "Tycoon" Aspects - 10 pointsIncludes staffing levels and meeting guest needs.1. On a scale of 1 to 5, determine if staff levels and coverage are sufficientEven the best looking park must rely on it's staff to keep it that way. People to clean the park, people to keep the rides working, people to entertain your peeps while they wait, people to make sure they are safe...all are important to the success of any park.
2. On a scale of 1 to 5, determine if guest needs are being met by shops and guest servicesThe rides may be the drawing card, but the peeps in your parks have other pressing needs that need to be met as well. Are there enough restrooms and food stalls? Are there enough shops to generate additional park income? Are these placed so that peeps do not have to travel long distances? Checking guest comments can help you determine their needs.
4. "How It Feels..." Creativity and 'Vacation Appeal' - 20 pointsOverall creativity. Is this where YOU'D like to spend a vacation? 1. On a scale of 1 to 10, judge the creativity of this park overall–Does the park feature anything that is new? Is a new type of theme tried out? Did they put incredible detail into everything? Did they create a new concept? Basically, are you “wow-ed” or awed by anything you see?
2. On a scale of 1 to 10, determine if this is a park worth spending a virtual vacation atWhat is your overall feeling of the park? Ignoring the scores above, how strongly do you feel that this park is worthy of being a Vacation of the Month pick?

Each park you judge should have a total for each of the four categories and a grand total.
The individual judge's scores given should not be given out. We will post the average scores.
It would probably be best if you refrain from talking about the parks or tell anyone that you have been a judge for this round until the VP3D announcement has been made. We will acknowledge you at that time.
Thanks for taking your time to judge this round of VP3D!
