Vortex was built by Messrs. Bolliger & Mabillard in 1992. It is a one-of-a-kind coaster found only at Carowinds Park. Although there are other "stand-up" steel coasters, this was the first to provide an oblique loop as well as a vertical loop and a "flat-spin."

RCT1/CF & RCT2 tracks included.

Well done, Steve! I tried to recreate Vortex once, but that didn't turn out too well. From the pictures I've seen, this looks amazingly accurate, including the station. Well done!

Great job. I've been on Vortex several times, and this is the best recreation I've seen of it. Only two minor differences: no on-ride photo (although the RCT limits make that near impossible unless you want to sacrifice actual track accuracy), and it's too close to the main path. But other than that, it's dead on :)

Vortex at Paromounts Carowinds dosent have an on-ride photo. Although it use to a LONG LONG time ago. I think you got the 2 B&M Vortexs' mixed up. HERE

It can be a deceptively tricky layout to do. The secret is the where one starts building the track.

Thanks for the clarification regarding the on-ride photo unit. I looked for it at the usual location (bottom of 1st drop or after the loop) but did not see any devices.

I've got to start Borg tomorrow. My old Stealth track is done, but I've yet to study the photos again to see if any changes/improvements are in order beside repainting it as Borg.

Dude, I live in NC. Carowinds is MY park. I know what I'm talking about. If they removed the cameras, oh well. But when I say I've been to a park, I've been to a park, and I know which coasters are which.

I looked at all the photos very carefully and found no on-ride photo equipment. As for the main path being too close, the queue is very long as it is (I even shortened it by 6 tiles. And, while the RCT queue does meander in the same general directions as the real queue, there is no way the entire queue could be made without wait times being 30 minutes or more. One must stop the recreation at some point, lest we end up at the park's main gate.
