Does that park still exist?
Regrettably not, it was demolished in 1967 having been turned into Pacific Ocean Park (or POP) 10 years previously. Only the carpark is there and warning 'underwater hazard' signs where the pier was. For me the greatest loss was Fred Church's Giant Dipper. The ride first opened in 1923 on Ocean Park pier, burned down seven months later, reopened on the adjacent Lick Pier in 1924 and was finally demolished in 1936 when the owner went bankrupt. What a history! Especially interesting is that the Giant Dipper was only the second coaster Church designed, the first being the 'Bobs' on Venice Pier in 1921, a small, compact three-tier figure of eight with twisting drops. The writhing turns and fan curves of his later coasters were first seen at Ocean Park! It's rather ironic that Church's wildest and best rides are all demolished and his tamer ones are still standing. As for John Miller's High Boy, the ride was renamed 'Sea Serpent' and lasted until the pier's closing.
Here's two photos of Venice's Giant Dipper, on the pier from 1923-1946:

I opened the park and installed 2 Virginia Reels in the park. The buildings look very realistic! I don't like that curved wall after the station on the chutes, though.
