Sorta off topic here but I don't really know where to put requests. I have seen a lot of destinations come and go over the years with the road rallies but don't think I've ever seen a road rally on the United Kingdom. But really, thats 4 countries! I was thinking more of Wales - my home country. As I live here/there, I would gladly participate in a road rally as I have taken in culture, art, music, ect. I That's why I have never tried to participate - all I can rely on is pictures and they truly can't help you went producing a park which is accurate. To me, road rally isn't all about skill (well most of it) but also about accuracy. I know it would be hard to produce a bench for Wales but it can be done. In fact, it would be a great place for the end of year rally as well - cause it's hard. You try reproducing the Millennium Stadium or Millennium Centre (if you've ever heard of them). Even if thats no possible, do the British Isles where you have multiple cultures. I'm just thinking that this little ol' place in Europe is one spot that cannot be left out of the agenda when considering which country to do for road rally. :) :) :)

LLOYD!!!! That's what everybody uses for reference for Road Rallies. Pictures and Wikipedia type information. That's what makes them fun....delving into unfamiliar territory. Most people that enter usually have zero or very little prior knowledge of the 'destination'. It's all about doing the research. Again, that's what makes it fun and also what separates the Road Rallies from other contests. We're gonna simplify the RR's for 2010 to make them more accessible for everyone so, I really hope to see a few entries from you (and everyone else reading this). ;)

Wow, I totally missed the comment about no RR's next year.

I think instead of making it a "challenge", you should make the benches buildable... I think the "challenge" scared away quite a few people from entering this part of the RR... like me. If you want people to enter, worry less about making the BENCH challenging, and more about making the people who go up against you challenging.

That's just what I think, though..

Also to add what Sambo wrote about this. Our most challenging bench, the No-CSO bench, happened to bring in the most competition.

True...but, that was mostly 'non-regulars' around these forums and also in part because of the 'no CSO' fad that rears it's head at NE every so often. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the challenge of no CSO in that round myself (just didn't have time to finish) because of the novelty of it, but that wouldn't fly on a regular basis at all. You have to cater to the masses.

In my opinion, a no CSO is less challenging than the current bench.

Well obviously. I'm not stupid. I was saying that because a bench is challenging it doesn't scare away competition.

Now Louis, I never insinuated that anyone was stupid....not lately anyway. But if you noticed...most of the more "challenging" benches got little to no response from entrants. The exception being the no CSO bench which attracted a few people that were already working with no CSO and not so much the people that had issues with the benches originally.

Anyway...I'm gonna delve more into the benches in the darkroom (some things I'd like to bring up are probably best suited to not be seen by everyone)....we can continue this discussion there.

Well I know for a fact I will be entering the Road Rallies next year. Its just with a full scale solo this year I haven't had time to enter any. I know a few guys that are really willing to enter as well. I always really appreciated the benches for being different and having a select few different objects to build with. It made it interesting. With the new bench it was challenging but I honestly didn't feel up to it when I wanted to concentrate on another piece of work.

Hopefully they will be back next year, I'd suggest advertising the contest at different sites to draw in some more contestants if the turnout wasn't good this year. Your doing good sambo just please don't get rid of the Road Rallies.

I agree, I would hate to see this the RR's and this site die. Most people have migrated to other places like NE, and this place is dead compared to 2-3 years ago. If I have some time next year, I will consider participating. I really like this site, more than NE, but the lack of activity keeps me going back to NE.

This place won't die. Its too good a site to do that. Sambo really does an amazing job of running everything.
