well we dont have to call it rct 4 we can call it supercoaster or something. And look at all the involvment the community had in making rct 2, I think Chris would gladly give some rights to the code and such, if not ask to be involved in making it.

Sorry to say this, but starting from scratch, when you have so much waiting as a resource, to be used in the game, is a waste. The game itself may not be legally cracked, but I can't see why the custom rides and scenery that have been created by members of the community over the years cannot be used in a simular game.

how about a different game, with the same aims as rct, but one that allows the object data to be converted from rct into the new games format so it would allow rides and scenary to be used still.

also regarding the usercreated files, we couldnt use them without any permissions anyway. There are lots and the game would want as many as is available.

i think even if a game was created and it was of excellent standard, we would find it difficult to have it widely available as we dont have the finances for such a game to be distributed. And if you were to say, make it for internet users, i think most programmers would want to make money from such a game (I know i would)

Yes... It seems that nobody in their right mind would want to work for free.

ok point taken....... i suppose i was refering to myself when i said that! i am unsure about the 3d game and i dont know who it is building it but i would presume that they are rather young and have lots of time to be able to make such a complex game for free.

all i was saying was that if i were to it, it would take a lot of my time which i would want compensating for. Maybe i'm wrong but i dont believe ultimately in working for free. don't get me wrong, i have done many things for free in the past!

The best compensation one can have is in giving to others. There is always enough, and enough to share.

I always do a percentage of my work pro-bono.

Yeah you guys! Get in the christmas spirit! And I think that maybe it could be sold from a website created for it for about $15-20. I know that if it were high quality, I'd buy it. Does anyone here know chris personally to talk to him about his code rights?

like i said before, i do work for nothing, or at least I am till it earns me money. I just seem to get more drive when I do something for an incentive. Nothing makes me more passionate about my work than someone dangling a nice juicy carrot in front of me!!!

Since Chris Sawyer and Atari are still involved in a multi-million pound lawsuit over alleged under payment of royalties from the first two games in the series, I highly doubt he's going to give anyone anything for free, and why should he? That's his livelihood.. We're also forgetting that there's almost always multiple layers of ownership rights to these things, so it isn't so simple as a quick phone call. The suggestion of coming up with a game 'similar' to rct2 that could use the same custom content would likely land those involved in court for copyright violations...did I mention the multi-million pound lawsuit he has going now? Anyone trying for anything even remotely similar better have awfully deep pockets...ask Sebar about the lengths they have had to go to to make sure the TPB3D project avoids stepping on anyone's toes!

Let's backtrack a smidgen. Custom Scenery, is scenery that did NOT come with the game.
It was made by third party, "After the Fact". So, does that mean you have to go to Atari or
Chris Sawyer, to use the scenery that was NOT included with the game? If not, then I don't
know how we got onto asking Cris Sawyer for rights for using scenery ha or Atari had little
to nothing to do with it.
