Are You An Rct Addict?

My, by then 10 year old son, got the package (RCt1+CF+LL) somewhere beginning 2000 I believe.
He loved building coasters and doing the scenarios, and frequently needed help for the manual, that came in English, which as a 10 year old Dutch kid he could not fully understand yet.
So I was already a bit drawn into it.
Even more so when he so desperately wanted to finish these scenarios, but knew very well that he could not accomplish it with just nice coasters, so he pleaded with me to please install those needed handymen, fix path-layout, etc. , overnight.
I did, loosing many hours of needed sleep, but This game was so much fun!
And, thanks to our joined "specialties" we together won many scenarios
It was the first time a computer-game really caught me!
Although working with computers really long, and having internet-access as soon as that became available for more than only work, I never had done anything game-like up till then other then excersising a bit of bridge.
But at that time I hardly had any free time at all, so after all it was a relieve that my son soon lost interest in the game, giving me an excuse to sleep decent hours again.
The game landed in the drawer.
Last year, fall 2004, my now much older son announced that (from the money he had earned by delivering the local supermarket-folders) he had bought a GREAT game: RCT2, and "Mom, I'am sure you will also love it, for now you can build with walls and windows and roofs etc.."
And I did!!
Having much more time now than a few years ago, I soon got addicted to this one (RCT2), while for my son it was not a stayer - he banned it to the drawer very soon, but I picked it out and since then it has never been out of my drive for very long.
I downright love all the possibilities (special thanks to all the scenery-makers and makers of the trainers) to make beautiful-looking parks in RCT2.
At the same time I cannot force myself to make "just beautifull parks", in which peep cannot get in or don't have fun. Those peeps and their weird behaviour are such fun!!
So, up till now I try to make all my parks as beautifull as possible, but still great fun for the peeps. Which, indeed, often causes alot of trouble and extra work.
No matter what you love in this game - just the scenarios, just building awesome coasters, just building awesome scenery or trying to combine all of it- the only important thing to me seems that it gives real fun.
No reason whatsoever for a "feud" between whoever, because all aspects of this game have its special attractiveness, from which the outputs can be valued and enjoyed..and that some people can just and only value the things they like personally??........
(Oh.... yes, I voted for RCT2 of course....)

Nice story, too. Sounds like we had similar 'paths' to the addiction. Those darn kids! My, by then 10 year old son, got the package (RCt1+CF+LL) somewhere beginning 2000 I believe.

I, too, have been working with computers for a long time (punch cards in 1978 started me off), and never was interested in computer games until RCT.It was the first time a computer-game really caught me!
Although working with computers really long, and having internet-access as soon as that became available for more than only work, I never had done anything game-like up till then...
Sounds, like you're having much fun with your cell project! Both of us are treadingAt the same time I cannot force myself to make "just beautifull parks", in which peep cannot get in or don't have fun. Those peeps and their weird behaviour are such fun!!

I totally agree that it's the fun that drives us. The point that RCTtom and I have made is that what made the original game so much fun for us Hatfields was the chess match of beating parks and the excitement of opening new ones. New ones that just had a name (like say Evermore Park), but nothing else. The suspense of not knowing what the next challenge was until one of the currently opened parks was conquered. And the quality and diversity of those scenerios added to the thill. No matter what you love in this game - just the scenarios, just building awesome coasters, just building awesome scenery or trying to combine all of it- the only important thing to me seems that it gives real fun.
It's not so much a "feud" as it is a difference in which aspects of the game each of us gets the most enjoyment from (as you alluded to) and the respect (or acceptance) of that difference. Stuff like saying a 17x17 workbench is too crowded with rides is one example of that difference. No reason whatsoever for a "feud" between whoever, because all aspects of this game have its special attractiveness, from which the outputs can be valued and enjoyed..and that some people can just and only value the things they like personally
After almost three years of being more an observer of this site, Becky gave me a chance to "have some fun" again with the Cell Contest. Win or lose doesn't matter so much as the excitement of competing and trying my hardest to have a competitive entry. The real challenge for me is showing the McCoys out there that a park doesn't necessarily have to be the most visually attractive park, to be "the best" at meeting the objectives.
My point is that there are those of us out here (Hatfields) that are in need of that scenerio beating challenge and, thus, an opportunity for someone (e.g. RCT2.com) to provide an infrastructure to get us hooked again.

I have RCT2 and the expansions (to my dismay).
I have RCT3, but it really really sucks so I never got the expansions.

Once Had, but the CD is bust and I can't play RCT2 (I have WW and TT *groan*)
RCT3 (With both expansions) is now the only version I can play.

i agree with you rtc 3 all that is good is that you can ride the coasters witch isn't that good.I have RCT1 plus both the excellent expansions for that excellent game, and RCT2, also an excellent game. The expansions for RCT2 however are nowhere near as excellent as those for RCT1, so I don't use them. RCT3 is IMO sacrilege of the name RCT. It should never have been created.
