unless you can prove it by actually counting

Just to add fuel to the arguement...you don't have to count.

Open Windows Explorer...right click on the ObjData folder. Click properties.

The fifth line will say: "Contains XXXX (a number) Files, X (number) Folders.

If you wanna brag..take a screen shot of that and post it.

'Nuff said.

I have 5283 objects in objdata folder and I did not have to count them one by one because my computer counts them for me. I can also still scroll in the editor.

oh, really? hmmm. weird. at one point i had like 4500 some in my objdata folder.
THEN i downloaded that UCES thing. when i played rct2 right after that, it said "error. too many files in objdata folder" or something like that.

soo.. i dunno how you managed that...

Don't you guys notice that guy was banned  ?

Or that this thread was almost four months old... ;)

I currently have 5289 objects in my folder, I've had over 5300 objects before without scrolling problems...and I've had 4900 objects WITH scrolling problems before too!

I believe the number of objects and their effect on the ability to scroll or not is not totally dependent on sheer numbers of files. Just like when selecting large scenery pieces in the "?" tab can use up more than one slot, I think the size of the object might effect other functions too...I don't know for sure, but then I also have seen myself that just the number of files isn't the sole reason for this.

Yes - the 5000 files is a general limit. Some can go over, some have problems before they reach it. It's more like the peak on a bell curve...

I do think it depends on the objects though, but I'm not sure if it is just file size that is the critical datum.

I had to clear out my folder this past week, and I think I may have figured something out about how this works... I think it's the # of each type of object (single tile, multi tile, ride/shop, etc.)

the limit is probably around 3000-3500 single tile objects. The only tab that we ever get the scroll error with is the single tile objects, so at least this sounds logical. This could also be why some people go over 5300 and dont get the error, or are under 4700 and get it. Or I could just be wrong, I'm only pitching this idea.

marinersfan59...maybe you are only pitching it, but it does make a lot of sense, and you are correct, I've only experianced or heard of problems with the small object tab, so you might have something there...

Lon time ago, I've get the same scroll error when I have more than 5,000 obj.
But yesterday when I go to the scenario editor, the scroll works. I don't know why. I have more than 12,000 obj now.
But there's some problem on it.
like the texts will overlap, and the selection seems to be ended in the "C" begining object.
You can see the pictures below:

I hope you can understand my poor english

Coach777, do you really try to work with that many objects? How do you manage it?

... and I thought I had a lot of objects.

Here is a capsule of the limits....mods you can do with this as you wish:

There are many comments, complaints and questions regarding the limits within RollerCoaster Tycoon 2.

In a nutshell here is a capsule of the limitations you may find while playing the game:

OBJECT LIMITS (scenery, etc.)

The game is coded in such a way that you are limited to the number of objects you may have to use in any particular scenario.  As far as has been determined by the best programmers, there is no way around the limits.  No trainer exists that works to get around the limits.  Bluntly, you cannot have “all rides, all scenery” in this game!

You may choose (in the “advanced” mode) of the Scenario Editor the following:

• Rides:                128 maximum
• Small Scenery:  252 maximum
• Large Scenery:  128 maximum
• Walls/Fences:    128 maximum
• Path Signs:          32 Maximum
• Footpaths:          16 Maximum
• Path Extras:        15 Maximum
• Scenery Groups:  19 Max. (you must have
                                          trees,shrub,gardens,fences,walls,signs tabs)
• Entrance:                1 Maximum
• Water:                    1 Maximum
Again, there is NO WAY around these limits.
OTHER LIMITS

There are other limitations within the game.  Again, it has been determined NOTHING can be done to get around them:

ObjData Folder:    It has been found you cannot have any more than 5,000 items in this folder.  This number includes all the Objects from the Original game and its expansion packages.

Signs:  You cannot have more than 252 signs in any park.  Signs adding to this total are large and small 3D signs, scrolling signs, path signs and 2 per ride (entrance building and queue sign.

“?” Tab:  This is the last tab found in the Scenerio editor for random scenery that is not part of a scenery group.  Her you can have no more than 128 items. After 128 items, nothing else can be displayed (or used).

I am certain you’ll run across additional limitations.  But…Bottom Line…there is no trainer, etc. that can give you all rides and scenery!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

-My friend has 5,009 Items in his Objdata folder. ALL work fine. I think the objdata folder can only have a # of memory saved on it. Just to tell you...
