"loading..." Error

My RCT2 (on W2K SP4) ran fine for years until last week, when I encountered this error for the first time. I tried to load a downloaded custom scenario (or it might even have been a saved game, last week anyway), and after the "checking object files" I only got a blinking "Loading..." window that would not go away for hours. (Me being me, I left it run over night once.) Then the only thing I can do is kill the progam
n Windows Task Manager. Restarting either the progam or Windows changes nothing.
Last week, I un- and reinstalled everything, which is annoying. Surprisingly, after I had reinstalled, I suddenly got custom scenery I had not seen before.
Now it has happened again, this time with a scenario called "Poltergeist" or something similar. It checks the object files, and then - The End. Neither can I start parks that worked fine before or anything similar, or the SC6 file for any scenario directly.
The DatChecker-Utility shows no red flags, so presumably this is not a problem. Anybody any idea what I can do? Preferably without reinstalling, if possible. I like custom scenarios and custom saved games, but if I have to reinstall half of the time when I use them, I might have to go without.
Thanks,
Alex

some of the custom scenarios and custom saved games will have virus on them so you have to be careful, if you have got a back up program called norton, you could go back to last week when you played your game and it will solvo your problem.
Errmmm ... lemme see:
- I sincerely doubt that scenarios or saved games can contain viruses in the first place; they are not executable, and hardly common enough for virus authors to check whether they could be used for viruses. Besides, I have a good virus scanner.
- Symantec (the Norton company) has many progamms, theses days most of them are terrible ressource hogs. I don't know which one is/was the wayback program; these days it's all big boxes with umteep programs of which you need only one or two, but let's just say even for Norton, that program was a very bad ressource hog.
- It would also be pointless to use it, since I might be able to go back (something that ever since I had this computer happened once, and then I had a decent backup, not some odd wayback thingy), but I still would not be able to use those scenarios.

Alex

Now to move on to the problem. Are you using the original CD or the nocd patch? If it's the original CD, there might be a problem with the cd. If not, then you should update your nocd patch version.

Actually, on re-reading that answer sounded maybe a bit harsh - I was mostly thinking about users who may, months or years from now, look through this forum and find this answer, uncommented. The facts I stand by, but if my style was too harsh, I appologise.

If you have a standard objdat folder that you have saved and use as your baseline, then remove the current one and replace with your baseline folder.
Once the park and the new scenery are removed - the loading error will be removed as well.

Unfortunately, rebooting did not solve the problem, so how do I remove that particular scenery? Can I go by date in the ObjData folder, maybe? There are a couple of files from that exact date.
And is that park then lost to me, i.e. will the game always crash when I try to load it, or do I have a 2nd chance?
Thanks a lot, btw - nothing more annoying than an error nobody else ever had.

best way often is to remove all custom scenery (sort them on date an you can just see which ones are original and the others you remove or move to an other place).

Ha, worked! Thank you very much!
Will save the ObjDat folder now to make sure I have a working baseline folder.
Will also try if I can use the offending scenario after all; it might after all have been a temporary glitch. I'll let you know.
Thanks again,
Alex
