I'm really really really stupid. I've never run disk defragment and laptop going slow so am gonna now. Anyway as you can tell its broing (10 minutes gone and 3% done gahhhhhhhhhh).

So I'm now taking bets on how long everyone thinks this is gonna take.

Mine is about 7 hours (couldnt be arsed with precise maths so thats probaly really out).

Cheers

PS. Maybe form now on Ill run defrag every week like I was suggested to somewhere.

First of all...

It will take longer to defragment if you are online on the forums

Second

You should do it before you go to bed so it does it while you are sleeping...no waiting around that way ;)

Third

You should not have to defrag every week..thats ridiculous unless you are constantly downloading and/or deleting lots of programs

guess what I being the genioous I am did. I closed the defragment by accident dammit (was on 40% or something liek that I think). Lol the every week thing was suggested by Microsoft in the instruction manual I think.

Hmmm going to bed seems like a good idea but if I leave it on parents will kill me and it seemed to be going at a ok spee even with me online and dling stuff.

Hope this topic hasnt annoyed anyone lol but I was slightly bored and had nothing else to talk about. That and I laugh at my own stupidity so why not give everyone else a chance to. IMO if I cant laugh at myself in life then I'm gonna kill myself before I'm 20 lol.

Anyway...

For a defrag to take 7 hours you must either have a ginormus hard drive, like a tetrabyte or sumpin' - or a very s - l - o - w processor like a pentium 1 running@ 300 MHZ. Maybe your drive is trashed and it's encountering so many errors it can't defrag. Could be a symptom of a major failure waiting to happen.

7 hours - wow.

I do agree 7 hours. Maybe a little Exateration?
I know my old computer used to take max an hour to do. And we ran it tri weekly seeing it was a family computer and i was always downloading things and deleting things.
My computer, the one im on now, Take maybe 10 minutes max. Even if i havent ran it in a month or two.

As Sambo said, youve got a problem, or one just about to happen.
Or
Your just taking it to the extremes in the lango :P

I was kinda exagerating and kinda being sarcastic but hey I gotta start running it again now so here we go. (though having siad that on my old computer it took us nearly 4 hours I think.

Oh yeah this laptop is over a year old (though I did have to wipe it enmtirely 6 months ago).

You'll hate disk defragmentation even more if it fails halfway through and you didn't make a backup before you started.

I've tried everything to get rid of lag.

Disk cleanup, un-installing, getting more ram, disk defragment, registry cleanup, removing startup programs, and ending backround tasks, but nothing worked for me.

Now my Steam games get around 7 fps. Same with everything else.

Did you try the most famous one of all?
Vaccuming the dust out of your tower?

Sounds whack, but it does make a difference to do that.

If youve already done that, then something went wrong somewhere
