Alright... so I finally found my CD key and got RCT3 reinstalled haha.. im just gonna write em on the CD from now on.. anyways...

I decided to get in way over my head and start building a Traditional Theme Park on the Sandbox Map (Im horribly with architecture in RCT, you'll see that in a moment, and bigger maps mean more buildings eh? Smart logic as far as I'm conerned, although pretty much irrelevant.)

I got the entrance done, some fancy parking lots with all that jazz and then decided Id like to try and build a large Merry-Go-Round structure as a sort of centerpiece just past the main entrance. It started out kinda.. well.. and then I ended up with this:

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how I might salvage it, or at least the general idea. I hate the wimpy little merry-go-round atari gave us.

Thanks,

ken

Hum, maybe you should download shyguy's custom scenery and try to recreate a carousel design? Because you cannot do something real great with the scenery available with rct3...

It's not bad but please download some custom scenery. It will make it look much better. This wesite is a great place to get custom scenery: :) http://www.ataricommunity.com

The merry-go-round is extremely small in RCT3. One way I found to 'bulk' it up without only relying on a building is to stack two of them, making a double-decker carrousel. Here's a screen from my park-in-progress:

Yes, I use custom scenery, but you could do something similar using generic walls, roofs, the fencing and porch poles from the western set, and whatever else you can think of. The trick is to go vertical, rather than letting it spread out sideways. Here's a look from another angle:

As you can see, most of the pieces have something similar in shape among the in-game stuff. In case your wondering, the entrance and exit paths for the top ride exit and enter through the building that surrounds the ride on two sides.

Practice will provide additional experience and skills up to a certain level. That level is different for each of us. Wagi's level is much higher than most everyone I know.

It is similar to photography, music, painting, etc... With the knowledge and experience, you can become highly skilled. To transcend beyond highly skilled into creative brilliance - well that depends on the person. I am much better at setting up the scene and getting the viewing angles than in actual construction. My constructions are somewhat skilled, but nothing more. They lack the brilliance that someone like Wagi has.

Practice will most assuredly help - it got me from building boxes to more detailed and elaborate structures. I think downloading some of the parks with great structures and dissecting them helps a lot. I have seen pieces used in ways I never thought they could be used to achieve effects that are not obvious at first sight how they are accomplished.

Thanks guys, but if there's any special 'talent' that I might even think about laying claim to, it would be perhaps the ability to take anything and see what else I can make out of it. I think that just comes from taking a good look at all the pieces found in each set and and trying to know what I have available, then when I want to make something I kind of have a feel for what might work in a pinch if I don't have something obvious.

Here for instance the striped poles are from JCat's Mouseworx support set, the pillars are interior pieces from Shyguy's Main Street set, the tent roof and trims are from his Circus set. There's even an item of custom scenery in one screen that I made myself (!). The tall building in the background is a ride structure - there's things from perhaps seven different CS makers combined to come up with something they didn't have in mind when they made the sets.

But you don't have to depend on Custom Scenery. Many of the in-game pieces can be used to (and they cause less lag). SEonline's structure is a very good attempt I think. My point in showing my park is that sometimes bigger IS better, but you need to be bigger for a reason. By stacking the two rides I gave a reason for the structure to be larger, and therefore have more importance in the park.

I know, I much like the good merry go round in RCT2, as well as custom scenery not causing that much lag.

Hmm... I don't know if the Amazing Earl would do one for RCT3, however when he build his rides they look RCT3 compatible, too.
