Extended support until April 8 2014.

I have issues with Windows "support" as it is, and Microsoft always gives better support to it's newest stuff. That my current favorite - XP Pro - will continue to be supported for 5 more years when I plan to move along to W7 is not really much for me to think about.

You live on the Web.

I think his argument here is somewhat contradictory. However, I use the web as a tool, but do not live on it. No Hulu, and I don't use all those "cool" trinkets in Facebook, nor to I have any real Google Apps (like Google Earth). I use Google to search, and Gmail to be anonymous. I use programs installed on my machine, and think "cloud" computing is dog-do on the shoes of the web. I do not live on the web - too old school for that, but not too old school to think what W7 has to offer will make my current experience better.

Microsoft's latest security features are freely available to download for XP.

So? If I get them on my current as well as next OS - why is this something to consider that would prevent or turn me away from a needed upgrade? Makes no sense. I tend to turn off MS security and use third-party apps anyway.

You've got your computer set up just the way you like it.

Yup. And it took me a whole weekend when I needed a total hardware upgrade to reinstall and get my settings customized the way I like them. I have done this so many times I can do it in my sleep. It is not something I fear because I just do it. I think his argument is really for people who haven't a clue where things really are on their hard drives, or how to go through a total re-do without crapping bricks.

Your next computer will include Windows 7 anyway.

This silly argument assumes that I buy a computer "system". I do not - I have never until purchasing my first laptop. I build my own desktops and install my own OS, meaning my desktops have NEVER included ANY version of Windows. The laptops are another story. I have modified the OS in three of them to suit my needs. They are nearly impossible to purchase without an OS. However - my primary tool is my main desktop, and my dedicated desktop is my secondary tool. The laptops are lower on the list.

SO...

I think those are pretty darn wimpy arguments for waiting or not installing W7 and instead keeping XP. In my case, the Hardware makeover of 8 months ago gave me finally full 64 bit capabilities, but my version of XP is 32. When I bought it, 64 bit wasn't realistic. After using the Beta W7, albeit briefly, I am convinced it is superior to Vista, and will allow me to not only utilize the 64 bit capabilities, but will solve some of the other difficulties I'm having - including my home network. Sure, there are some things I don't like, but those are small compared to the gains I get. I'll just deal with it.

It took me a long time after XP came out (after SP2) before upgrading from W2K. There were issues with XP that finally got resolved to my satisfaction. I never upgraded to Vista for the same reasons - there were issues that needed to be worked out. Those issues have been not only addressed, but improved upon in W7. So - for the first time ever, I will be buying a new Windows OS shortly after release.

I have to agree with Sam on this one. Ive been running Win7 since the beta cam out and have not had a single issue with it (since the RC version anyways).

The biggest reason for moving to Win7 though is the home networking. I was able to get it set up in minutes where I never was able to get it up and running in XP.

In short, I will upgrade as soon as it comes out.

Never mind all the pros and cons of 'support'.

Will it run RCT1, RCT2 and RCT3? :geek:

Actually, I let others perform as the guinea pigs, and find out if there are any bugs before I go the heartache and hair pulling anguish of replacing my OS to something other than XP. XP has always worked for me. Why bother to replace something that I find is suitable enough? Until then, I'll just wonder what the commercials AREN'T telling me. Like why viruses find it so easy to screw over windows.

I rarely leapfrog versions of Windows. Every time I upgrade my PC it has the 'next' version. I managed to avoid Windows ME though, and this PC came with Vista which lastest about 1 day before I gave up and reloaded XP.

I have bought Windows 7 Ultimate though and will grant it a small space on my disk to see what I think.

Been running win 7 since beta and been loving it. It does have it quarks but that's normal what doesn't? It's alot better then vista. A lot happier with it. I no longer have the problems with blue screens and error's. Only problem I have is drivers for windows 7 64bit but it's only 1 driver and that's easily fixed. But so far I love it. And the major question is YES IT RUNS RCT 1,2 and 3 with no problems YET.

Well, the only problem I have with RCT2 (assume RCT 1 is like this too) is that it doesn't run a 1920x1080 resolution.

Well, the only problem I have with RCT2 (assume RCT 1 is like this too) is that it doesn't run a 1920x1080 resolution.

I'm pretty sure that RCT1 only ever ran at 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 and 'Windowed' which was 1280x1024 max.

I've never got RCT2 running wider than 1280 either.
