I keep get an error imediately when I open the editor (v1.23), at which point it crashes. I even downloaded it from various sites and still the same error occurs.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's just the basic windows error that lets you send an error report to them:

RCT2 ObjectEditor has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonynmous.

I could try v1.22 anyone have a link?

Try our friends at RCT*Mart...

I'd send you a closer link, but I haven't been able to even get their home page to load for me for some time. I guess My IP is on their "list". :(

don't know how it is called in the english version of windows so I try to describe.
if you go to the screen where you can change the color depth (right click on the dekstop and the last option and the right tab) you click on advanced and there on something like trouble shooting.
there you have a slidebar, take it to the far left and it is disabled.

The full path would be:

Start/ Settings/ Control Panel/ Display/ Settings/ Advanced/ Troubleshoot.

But, I would suggest sliding just one notch at a time and try the OE instead of completely disabling it at first.

the OE only works if it is slided down completly (at least for me) .
so I only use 1.23 if I really must (large scenery without supports for example) and after that restore the hardware acceleration
