[KandiDesigns]

Hi Guys,

I purchased Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 + Expansion Packs (Soaked and Wild) when they originally came out, installed them and they had been working fine. Then, uninstalled them, due to me upgrading from Windows XP upto Windows Vista, which i did the upgrade about 4months ago. Then, reinstalled Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 + Expansion Packs (Soacked and Wild) and everything was working brill again. But, i came to use Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 again today, loaded it all up and it got to the Main Menu, and it is now just sitting their frozen...

Would anyone be able to help me with my problem please...? My DxDiag is below...

Considering it worked before on the system as it is - and now it doesn't. This leads me to believe there is a change in settings somewhere between you graphics card setting and your game's graphics setting.

Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (75Hz)

This concerns me... Shared memory? is this a laptop or do you have onboard graphics not a card?

What it looks like is you are at a fairly high resolution (1280 x 1024) with no memory to drive it. I'm not sure how you system even works, but putting that aside - there are some things to try.

take your graphics card settings down very low, such as 800 x 600 or possibly even 640 x 480, and try rebooting the game.

If it comes up, then there are memory allocation issues with your video system.

If it does not and you still have the same problem, it could be the game video settings have been set higher than your system can provide. This can be remedied by deleting a settings file - of which I can't name because I don't have the game installed on this computer, but can in a little while. By deleting that file, when you boot the game, it will reset all your settings, including your game graphics settings. When asked, put you graphics settings to "low" and continue with the setup.

If the game comes up and works - you can go back in and adjust them a bit higher until you are satisfied or the game goes dark again.

I'll report back once I find the name and location of that settings file...

Thanks Sambo, those settings were really confusing me aswell, about my GFX card... but anyways, i have installed Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 + Soaked + Wild onto my INTERNAL Hard Drive this time instead of putting them onto my EXTERNAL Hard Drive and things seem to be working fine... very very strange to be honest. It all loaded up and the settings for the game is now recommended at "Quality". So, guess i will have to see how things go from now on, and fingers crossed...smooth!!

The expansion packs (Soaked and Wild) were seperate discs, or do you have Platinum? There is a known problem that when un-installing Soaked!, files are often left on the registry, causing problems when the game loads.

There's two ways you can deal with this, one is to use a program like Add/Remove Plus which will help root out hidden registry files, OR, if you feel confident in moving files on your computer, you can follow this procedure from Atari Tech Support:

In order to uninstall the program manually, you will need to edit the system
registry and remove a specific key that you may have missed before.

**Warning: Advanced Users Only : Use at your own risk!**

* Editing your registry improperly could corrupt Windows! This could
mean re-installing Windows and possibly losing all information on your
computer!
* Before starting, read the instructions below completely and make
sure you understand them.
* If you are unsure of any step here, contact our phone support at

If you are unable to uninstall the game through the Add/Remove Programs
menu you can do it manually as follows:

1. Removing the registry keys
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. Type REGEDIT
4. Press OK
5. Click on the plus next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
6. Click on the plus next to Software
7. Click on the plus next to Microsoft
8. Click on the plus next to Windows
9. Click on the plus next to CurrentVersion
10. Click on the plus next to Uninstall
11. Right-click on {EA926717-CE5A-4CB4-AB21-9E6E9565A458}
12. Select Delete
13. Click on the File menu
14. Click on Exit

You should now be able to reinstall Soaked

Moving where you had the game installed may well have just by-passed the registry entry if it was still there.

Also, I used to have the same video card, you might want to update the drivers, they are from November of last year and I remember downloading updates in February before I switched.

Hmmm, it really did baffle me for a bit wabigbear, lol you wouldnt believe. I have been on it all day today, and not one slight hitch at all and im running the GFX quality, just below the top spec (cant remember what it is classed as) and it is running very smoooooooooooth!!
