March/April 2006 Test Subject - Entrance Plaza

One of our clients has placed an research order for their chain of theme parks. In order to give these varied parks an unified and standard branding, they have requested some new designs for their front entrance plazas. These plazas are extremely important to any park, serving as the park's 'front door' and used to set a welcoming tone. They are also real workhorses, not only do they need to be pleasing to the eye, but also perform a huge number of guest services.

These could include:
  • Ticketing
  • Annual Pass sales
  • Lost and Found
  • Lockers for guest use
  • Restroom areas
  • Park Management Offices
  • Retail areas to catch sales from exiting customers
  • Retail sales for those entering the park (i.e. park maps)
A well designed entrance plaza also needs to maintain an area large enough to funnel large crowds through the gates on even the busiest holiday weekend in an efective and pleasing way for all guests.

Your task, if you should decide to accept it, is to design a Main Entrance Plaza.
  • You may use a bench of up to 32X40 tiles.
  • Use of Soaked! and/or Wild! expansion packs IS allowed
  • Custom scenery IS allowed.
  • Options .txt "cheats" are NOT allowed

While our client has decided to leave the choice of themeing up to you, they do require that the following items be included in your design:
  • Two (2) restrooms
  • At least one (1) food stall
  • At least one (1) drink stall
  • At least one (1) ATM machine
  • At least one (1) merchandise stall
  • At least one (1) transportation ride **
**NOTE: Transportation Ride is not required to be operational, but may instead deadend at the edges of the bench.

Entries should include a Readme file listing any custom scenery used.
Any custom music or billboard images must be included.
Entries should be compressed and sent to walterkrum@gmail.com by midnight on Sunday, 16 April 2006.
Please note your forums username in the entry.

Can I just check, that by 2 restrooms it means two of the actual placeable ones, or is it two restroom facilities/buildings?

Sorry, I have no clearer way really to describe that

Your questions was perfectly clear...I just wish my original post was!

The restroom should indeed be the in-game placeable ones.

Thanks for bringing that up so I could be a little clearer.

Looking forward to seeing your project entry!

I'm getting quite excited about it actually, I suppose it helps being an Admissions Senior at a real life park really... ;)

Well that was annoying, I'd finished my entry and Hotmail wouldn't send it and now the deadlines passed. I may just release it as a park, yes, a gripping park it'll be too.

What was the reason Hotmail gave for not sending it Josh TPT? Was the file zipped? If you can get the problem fixed in the next day or so we'll still be able to slip your entry in before the Nutz 'n Boltz team recovers from their Chocolate Easter Bunny Binge. One other possibilty is to use Rapidshare or a similar file sharing program and then send the link to the file to Walter Krum. Contact me by PM and I'll see if we can't get the file from you some way.

Oh my yes, Wagi is correct! While we do have posted deadlines we also know these problems can sometimes spring up, and we're willing to try to work with you to find a way to get your project to us even if it's delayed by a day or so.

Wagi had several great suggestions, so I'll let him try to work with you to see if you can get it into us later today or tomorrow. In the meantime I need to check on staff member Lonnie Swineherder, he's been playing with a couple packages of little yellow marshmellow "Peeps" he got in his Easter Basket and, well, now he's running them through the microwave and making them expand into huge inflated yellow Peeps...it's just not natural! Thank goodness he hasn't found the blue marshmellow bunnies I hid from my own stash!
