I'm really struggling to get RCT1 to play on my latest PC. It came with Vista pre-installed, but I've changed it to a dual boot with XP Media Center, and I can get it to work with neither OS.

RCTHelp,

One would assume you already did, but have you tried this?

I guess you didn't see his post on January 4th in that very same forum you referenced?

I've got RCT1 running on my XP Media Center 2005 now. It turns out that even though my RCT1 was one of the last versions released in the UK, it was shipped 'unpatched', and I needed to add the Win 2K/XP patch.

Once RCT1 was stable, I was able to install Loopy Landscapes (v1.20.013) too and that's fine. I've given up on Vista. Not just given up with RCT1 [and 2], given up full stop!

Try updating your version of vista, see what that does. Because I'm pretty sure Vista's been upgraded to be able to run those kinds of games.

Not interested. I have no plans to use Vista now until I have something that will ONLY run on Vista.

Just in case you didn't know, if rct2 had the ride the rides option, then it would have had to be 3d.

I agree with this post 100%. RCT2 was the best in the whole lot because it was very user-friendly by giving you everything in the game from the beginning with no unlockables, allowing the simple creation of new scenarios and rides, was fast even on slow computers (aside from the loading screens), the only problem are the game crashes and "loading Screens of Death" when loading custom graphics. But even without the customizability, RCT2 was just amazing.

Of course RCT3 did improve on the appearance and intelligence of the peeps, but aside from the addition of a true sandbox mode and many new rides (not to mention old rides with new track parts, "trains" and features, like the large 4x4 turn for Go Carts) it doesn't add anything new in my opinion. Going 3D, while it did help with editing in some cases, doesn't affect the gameplay whatsoever other than the game becoming slower and slower than RCT1 and 2.

What I think would be the best for RCT is if Chris Sawyer released a "Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 Deluxe" like what he did with RCT1, but add in most, if not all the enhancements from RCT3 that gave the series better performances and playability (none of that 3D slowing the game stuff! [Graphics =/= gameplay]), and of course, adds in the much needed compatibility with Windows 7.

I think that first-person shooters killed RCT...
