What I also can't stand is how in the Forties and Fifties, Disney could get away with children using drugs/alcohol (like in Dumbo with the "Pink Elephants" sequence), but nowadays, anyone that tries to do that in what would otherwise be a kids' movie would get a PG-13 or R rating.

But you can't judge someone or something by contemporary standards that didn't exist when the person created their work. To be fair you can only judge them by the standards that existed then.

To do otherwise is intellectually dishonest.

Indeed - Spaceballs got a PG rating even though they said the f-word and sh-word a lot, and yet whale rider was PG-13 because of a brief drug sequence. Over-reacting.

I recommend seeing "This Film Not Yet Rated", a somewhat investigative documentary on the movie ratings industry. Very revealing as to why the ratings are so messed up, and in my opinion so unnecessary.
