As far as the new park program, I imagine a lot of those folks may be students of computer programming. So, becoming involved with the project is going to give them the experience to take on the real world, once they establish themselves with the collaberation of a freeware program project such as this. It'll be quite the project to have under their belt when they apply for a real computer game company.
The idea of "Not getting paid", depends on what you believe "pay" is. It's their stepping stone to bigger things and real jobs & money in the future. Money isn't everything. Sometime "Getting Experience" such as, working closely with others, problem solving, collaborating in designs, creating new ways of doing things and getting exposure, are ways of getting "paid". Companies look for people with experience in all these areas. Creating a theme park program is going to speak volumes to a personel Department Representative. Simply for it's complexity. Which is going to go far when it comes down to hiring a new employee.
Not to mention the life-long friendships that will evolve between people who have spent months & months working together. Networking is also a big benifit. Someone on this project might be looking for someone to fit in with some other project in a company, somewhere down the road. They'll think of someone on this freeware project a few years back, and contact them. Maybe even bring them into a real project. Nothing is better than having experience and networking. It's as good as money in the bank.

One of the advantages of RCT 'dying' is that I've finally splashed out and completed my RCT collection! I didn't buy Wacky Worlds, Time Twisters, Soaked or Wild, but now I've got a seriously fast PC with a good graphics card, I've decided to go ahead and bought this http://www.amazon.co...e...971&sr=8-10 I ordered the last one they had in stock
Wow - The whole collection in one package. Way to go mate!

And I just got the Triple Thrill Pack for RCT2 today!
One of the things I've been doing is gathering up the collections of games as well. I just bought the RCT Deluxe pack, the RCT 2 Triple Thrill Pack, and an Age of Empires bundle. I have no intention of getting RCT 3 though.
You can get these bundles for a pretty cheap price these days, but it's best to get them now, because they won't be available forever.

I had to pay $24.99 for my RCT2 set, which was (of course) worth it.
I also still have my RCT Deluxe set (with the Loopy Landscapes, etc), but it doesn't work anymore. Too scratched. Perhaps i'll go and get it buffed, if I must.
I will probably go and get a RCT3 Platinum pack (esentially every RCT3 game and expansion pack), but I've said this before, I wouldn't really like it.
Also, as an added "Chris Sawyer" bonus, I went out and got myself "Chris Sawyer's Locomotion". Played a demo version of it, and it's really good, but underrated. That's probably why it cost $10.00, but really! If this game had expansion packs, like its predecessor "Transport Tycoon" had, it should cost more than just that. After all, it's the most recent Chris Sawyer game (I think, give or take a couple of years), so shame on Atari for sinking not just the Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise, but other games that Chris Sawyer made, down the drain!

I think the deluxe pack is still just $9.99 on Amazon. It's well worth it in my opinion. Even if you don't play it now, there's always the future.
