Did you know that the Edison lightbulb wasn't actually invented by Thomas Edison? In 1874, two Toronto men, medical electricians by the names of Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans, made what we now know is the Edison lightbulb. They attempted to sell the idea, but failed, and sold the patent to Thomas Edison for $5000. This left Edison with little money to make and sell the bulbs, and so Edison told the press he had already invented the lightbulb, and just needed money to reproduce it.
