So I heard people mentioning my name and my ears were starting to itch a bit:

A couple more sites I remember - there was Cav's RCT Depot which was another of the first few sites I visited. I remember Cav's distinctly because it had some POV coaster videos of real rollercoasters. They were fun to watch and video on the internet was still fairly new back then. Cav's also was a great source for utility downloads (that may have been the first place I ever found Henry's TRG Trainer). I believe that Mike Robbins (if he is still around) can fill in more about Cav's RCT Depot as I think he was somehow involved in that site.

=========================================================

The community i have my fondest memories from was of course the Station. There I actually contributed a bit myself, not solely lurking. Especially I remember Steve Franks, Greg Wolking and Mike Robbins. Their answers was always polite and usually indispensably helpful. Of course there were many more deserving a mention from that time, but hey, these three had their names as nicks! That worked my memory department well, at least.

It's always weird to hear people talking about me years later.

I do lurk around here or at NE every few months or so. And about Cav's, I can tell a bit about it from what I remember.

Cav's RCT Depot was the first site I took part in. Cav was starting the site when the game was first released and I chatted with him a bit. I did a lot of work for the site like making thumbnails and helped upload scenarios. I sent him some of my work and he said he's never seen anything like it before. And for us old timers that remember, all of the public users parks were just built scenarios so no one had anything original. the park I sent Cav was called "Seven Wonders of the World." From what I remember, it was the first real custom park in the game and it had thousands of downloads. I know a lot of people have told me that park was the first custom park they have seen and that's the park that got them really into the game. I believe Corkscrewed from NE said this was his first park he downloaded too. After a while Cav's grew rapidly because it's only main rival was Danimation. While Danimation was a good site, it's strong point were its forums where Cav's never had a big forum. It was about its content.

When Cav's closed, I remember Red Phoenix contacted me and told me he was starting RCT Station. I guess he wanted to host my parks as a way to create interest in his site since I was one of the premier builders in the day. Along with my parks, there were other popular members that joined and the forums grew too. So then it was RCT Station and Danimation as the heavyweights. Then Danimation had a rebellion and then a Civil War of sorts. The so-called rebels from Danimation started NE Designs. Now, I really do like what NE has done for the game, but Iris did use a lot of content from Danimation including the name "Spotlight Parks." Danimation had the original "Spotlights" and Iris 'borrowed' the name. Eventually Danimation fizzled anyway so NE had sole "Spotlight" parks.

Then eventually RCT Station closed (read Red's post above) and most members from there flocked to here at RCT2.com. From the Station also emerged the RCT Masters. A group of premier park makers that made group parks. The Masters was the first club in RCT and I was reluctant to join at first because I liked working solo, but eventually joined Kai and company.

As for what I've been doing since I left RCT.... The main reasons I left was because the criticism. Not from here, but I think it was mostly from NE. You could put hours and hours of work into a park, and the end result would be 90% negative comments about how it should be done. The game just wasn't fun anymore so I quite about 3 years ago. Every now and then I would build something but not too much. Also in this time I went through a divorce, moved from England to California, and have been busy doing other things.

There is an incomplete RCT Master park I started in my possesion. Some of you might remember Universal's Hollywood Hills threads a long time ago. I still have it and have asked Mama Bear and Todd Lee for assistance in finishing it about six months ago, but as of know, nothing has been accomplished. I'll probably continue it on my own once again and hopefully submit it one day for Vacation Park as a final chapter to the RCT Masters.

Great to hear from you again Mike!

I think it's also interesting to note that the RCT Depot name was used way back in the begining of the community for Cav's site. A later RCT Depot site used to add "The original" to their logo, but people who had been around for awhile knew that wasn't true. I remember coming across Cav's RCT Depot just before it closed when I first took up the game.

An incomplete Masters park still out there? I sure hope you guys are able to someday complete it, I do recall UHH!

Welcome to California, Mike...

"Seven Wonders of the World." That brings back memories - fuzzy ones - but memories nonetheless.

What I do remember was it was no longer a "new" park when I became involved in the community, but it was a turning point. There was a transition from just parks - to "creations", and that is what got me hooked. I noticed there was a similar, although more subdued transition with RCT3. There are some very beautiful and elaborate creations out there now that were difficult to even imagine in the first few months of RCT3's release.

Thanks Mike for the additional recollections. Stop by and reminisce any time... ;)

I haven't been around long, but I really enjoyed reading that. It was kind of like reading a history book on RCT. It is nice to see how far the game has actuall come from site to site. What has happend along the way, and who is still around. Thanks for giving me just a taste of what I am sure is a vast history of RCT...
