I'm pretty new in joining roller coaster tycoon communities (but not with playing the tycoon games, I've played them all for a long time), but with all this information on this thread it makes me feel like I was in here in the beginning. Zoo Tycoon was really fun, I just feel it didn't have the kick in it like roller coaster tycoon did.

OH OH one more thing before I go to bed.

SOMEONE GET THE PESKY BEAR OUT OF THE SPACE FRIDGE BEFORE HE EATS ALL THE FOOD !!!!

sorry Wagi had to get that in there I miss the days of teasing you and hope they become plentifull again in the near future.

Yes, I really wish someone would get that lock taken off the frig or at least a copy of the key...that Mama Bear always seems to hurry off whenever I want to just 'borrow' it to do my refrigerator inspection...those are required by law you know!

Great to hear from you again Yellowrose! Isn't it great to touch bases with some of the names we all remember from back when the community was really jumping? For sure send Ogre our greetings, and hope you get a cahnce to stop back in...I know you've known many of the members from both the RCT and ZT community...and often times they belonged to both, and I'll bet you can recall a name ofr two that will ring bells for many of us!

Well, I'm off back on my rounds...there's a peculiar smell of deep fried chicken wafting from the staff room and I need to make sure it's safe...safe to eat that is, and so I'll volunteer to sample a piece or two to make sure. Yes, it's a dangerous job, but I'm glad to do it!

Throw a piece of that chicken my way Wagi after you've tried first though. If you fall over then I'll know for sure it's not safe to eat....lol

Mama Bear you keep that key hidden or we'll all be starving in no time at all.

There may not be too many old names from me other then Ogre as I got to know Ogre more through his ownership of Ogresnet and Zoo Admin. I'd also like to invite any of you who liked ZT to stop in to ZA when we come back online. I am now co-owner of Zoo Admin and we are in the process of getting things moved to a new dedicated server which is taking way longer then I anticipated but with my traveling all over for work (in British Columbia at the moment) it makes it hard to stay one top of things after working a 14 hour day and you're up at 4 am every morning. And speaking of 4 am if I don't get to bed I won't see 5 am nevermind 4....Night all

I'll stop in again tomorrow for a few minutes

The challenge I have noticed to be the biggest problem in writing “The History of RCT” is not remembering events, places and faces from the past in the RCT community, the challenge is in trying to keep it short and simple in a game and gaming community where nothing is short and simple. So many names, so many stories.

But, the intro is done and off to Sambo and the story is well underway. More and more old-timers keep checking in, more and more memories flow and the RCT story keeps going up and down the steep hills and awesome drops like a never ending ride in RollerCoaster heaven on the fringes of our imagination.

I happen to love challenges and wild rides! So bear with me (no pun intended Wedge) and hopefully soon we can all take a look at a bizarre phenomena, a fantastic PC game and a crazy never ending ride called RollerCoaster Tycoon that so many have ridden with glee or are still riding it hands still thrown up unabashedly and with abandon; still having fun!

Keep the stories rolling in, some are being used in the story, and some will be added at the end. What was your part of the RCT phenomena?

Boomer. Your right. Some people are dropping off the roller coaster train while others are still riding with enjoyment.
Something that you can have i nthe history, would be their favorite RCT memory.

Wheither it be on this site, in the game, hearing a new release about the game, or something that just was their favorite memory of RCT.

I easily could come up with several favorite RCT memories. My most abhorrent memory, however, was that day back in November or December 2000 when I went to RCTOA message boards and they were no longer there. Then I went over to I think RCT Station (but it might have been RCTUK) and one of the long-time members of RCTOA had posted a thread titled GONE!!! - the text was something like this (I really do remember it almost word for word more than six and half years later): "Dude! RCTOA is gone. DennyG took his s*** and ran."

I remember typing something along the lines of "Is it really gone. I mean it could just be down. What happened?"

The response came from the same member - something about late, late the night before apparently DennyG had written some very harsh post about Sim5 (co-owner of the site) - Sim5 responded in what I think was meant to be a joke, but was in poor taste or just badly worded. That seemed to set DennyG off and he posted a long rant about Sim5 being an alcoholic and DennyG having to run the site on his own and finance it on his own and that he was going to take the site down, etc. The post was there for a little while and several people may have read it (I know at least the person who posted the thread at RCT Station or RCTUK had read the exchange) - then the next thing anyone knew when the went to RCTOA.com was that it wasn't there anymore.

Textbook case in how to kill a thriving web based community...

Very sad day.

Of course the community came back at the Station - but that sure was one RCT internet explosion.

:> Another sad thing is that it wasn't the last time something like this happened either. Similar situations occured on other sites. It's to be expected when you are dealing with the many varied personalities that have made up the community over the years. But it's also a part of this history - warts and all - and should be remembered just like we remember all the good times too. It's important, and I think it points out just how amazing it is that such a community was able to come into being despite the inevitable personal differences.
