That's a lot of history, a fun read too. I didn't realize so much happened so quickly after the game was released. It's quite amazing what the internet has done.
I didn't hear about the game at all when it was released, and came upon it by chance. I went with my Dad to Office Max, and while he got what he was looking for I skimmed over all the computer games and ran a across a blue box with a red rollercoaster on it. I picked it up and got my dad to buy it for me. I think this was around late '99 early 2000, but I really have no clue. I do know it was before the expansions came out.
I played the game and had a lot of fun with the scenarios. It never occured to me that there might be an online community for the game. I have no idea how I did, but in late 2001 I came across rctstation, joined, and had a whole new world of possibilities opened. As soon as I found that I could create my own basic parks with the trainers I dropped the scenarios and started creating on my own. I had a lot of fun with it, especialy looking at other people's parks (I still have a folder in my rct original archives with 100 some parks I downloaded.)
It was interesting when I first joined because there seemed to be quite a few people building what I called "coaster towns." parks with little scenery and loaded with 8-10 rollercoasters. Thankfully that fad started to fade, and was pretty much destroyed by all the new trainers. As people started to master them, hacking seemed to skyrocket in popularity. track combine was really popular, though I never really got the feel for it. I think one of the popular hack types was "object stack" and I've always wondered if that had any influence on the new scenery manipulation abilities in RCT2.
Then came RCT2. This is my favorite version of the game (I haven't purchased rct-3d, probably never will). I've always liked the original graphic style, and am glad they carried it on. The main thing that sold me on RCT2 was the improved ability to make buildings. I bought it as soon as it came out.
The thing that amazes me most about RCT2 is how quickly the ability to make Custom scenery came out. Toon had custom rooves out before Christmas that year, it still amazes me that within two months fans had pretty much gutted the whole of RCT2 code.
I liked the idea of custom scenery, and quickly started creating my own, making sure I stuck with the original graphics. I appreciated it even more as I saw the expansions, which left the previous style and tried to inject another one into the game. The custom scenery has really helped the game out.
And now, here I am, another summer, another park, and a small scenery project. I'm starting to think this may be my last real active summer for a while. I just finished my second year of architectural studies at Kansas State. Let me tell you, it is one of the time consuming things out there. Lots of late nights and long weekends anytime there's a project deadline. I start third year next (we don't really use class names in the architecture college because it's a five year program, but hey, I'm getting a Masters! so it's all good here) and I hear that it's the hardest. That's when we start working on computers, so it's a pretty heavy hitter. The summer after that I'm going to have an internship, then comes fourth year with study abroad. Life as an adult soon takes over.
I'll try to keep in touch, but I won't be able to put out a park every year anymore. I only wonder if I'll get a VP . . . I plan on trying with my current project.
hmmm, wrote more than I thought, what's ironic is I hit the fast reply button . . .

Light, I remember you very well. Also, i wish you the best of luck with your architectural studies. I will soon be joining your pain in a few years, just as an Engineer. About the Computer classes, have you ever taken a CAD class? If not, dont worry its real easy, you'll get the hang of it.
My Dad's an Architect and i sometimes peer over his shoulder and watch him "draw" on the computer... But ive taken classes at School for it and my dad also gave me a few lessons.
Again i wish you luck with the classes, its a great career to get into.
As for RCT, i too am trying to get back into it, i miss the good old days..

I took a couple of cad courses in highschool, but I think I'm still going to prefer pencil on paper.

Oh man I completely forgot about "thedoctorpepper". I haven't seen Red in a while too, I think he was the one who made all those cool bridges and waterfalls on rct2.

I remember RCT Station. I just joined when that was beginning to end. It was a great site. But I'm far more used to this one than any other one.
I to remember the Station. I was a member at the very end like you RNR. Then you and I joined here the same day! LOL

Another old time member of RCT Station and I were just talking the other night and wishing someone would combine the best of RCT 2 and the best of ZT into one great enjoyable game for all of us original game die hard fans to enjoy.
I'm sure the name of Ogre will ring a few bells for some of you and let me tell you he still talks about the Station days and still plays and enjoys RCT 2 and the next time we speak on the phone I'll tell him you all say hello.
Well I'm away from my Ontario Canada home in British Columbia for work and with a 3 hour time difference it is my bedtime but now that I again have this site's link added to my reformatted laptop will pop in and see everyone more often.
OH OH one more thing before I go to bed.
SOMEONE GET THE PESKY BEAR OUT OF THE SPACE FRIDGE BEFORE HE EATS ALL THE FOOD !!!!
sorry Wagi had to get that in there I miss the days of teasing you and hope they become plentifull again in the near future.
