Please use this topic to:
  • read about known bugs
  • report any bugs you find
  • comment generally on the RCT2.com Ride Exchange
  • make suggestions for improvements.
The Exchange is now open!

THE EXCHANGE IS FOR RCT1 RIDES ONLY AT THE MOMENT. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH RCT2 RIDES YET SO PLEASE STOP TRYING TO SUBMIT THEM!

It has been populated with:
  • every ride by Chris Sawyer that we can find. That's every ride from every scenario, and all his track packs. Where the ride names clashed, we have prefixed them with the start of the scenario names in which they appear.
  • John Wardley's rides. John is an imagineer who designs coasters for a living. He was a consultant on the game. His RCT track designs are of rides that he designed for real-life parks, but which were never built.
  • www.rollercoastertycoon.com ride competition winners and runners-up. These no longer seem to be available from the official site. If you are the original designer of any of these rides (and can prove it), please contact us so we can credit your design properly. At the moment it is credited in the Ride Exchange to 'Official Site'.
Known Bugs
  • The underscore '_' character in ride names is being removed from the listings on the screen and the name of the files that people download.
'Nice To Have' features that are not yet implemented
  • The screenshot pop-up behaviour needs improving, centring itself, remaining on top, etc. This may be implemented in a future version. Done v1.1 2 July 2003

It has been brought to my attention that there has been a marked performance degradation on the Ride Exchange since it was launched.

I've isolated why but haven't worked out the permanent fix yet. In the meantime, the temporary fix is to empty a particular database table manually.

You should see a marked performamce improvement now. If it gets really bad again before I have fixed, please PM or email me and I'll empty the table again!

I've added a bug fix to the Ride Exchange, and moved the version number up to v1.01. This bug fix is to stop performance degradation over time by managing the database better. All changes are therefore 'under the bonnet'. However, you may see some slight user interface format changes because the Ride Exchange skin is not yet fully compatible with v1.1 forum software.

Does anybody get frequent problems like those shown in this screenshot when trying to download rides? If so please reply here telling me which version of Windws you have, and the version of Internet Explorer (or other web browser) that you use.

The stuff I want to know whether you see is the text that starts 'HTTP/1.1 200'

Thankfully nothing happened when I just tested it.

For the record, I'm using WIN98 and IE 5.5

Today, the ridex was updated to version 1.05 after I discovered a nasty bug with the exchange overwriting your search/sort choices with somebody else's choices, if both of you have decided to hide your session number in your User Profile.

During testing of the Ride Exchange with v1.2 of the board software  a number of logic bugs were discovered. The fixes have now been added to this board too, and the Ridex is now released as version 1.1 02 July 2003..
  • The Ridex navigation menu link to go to Sort & Filter went to the wrong place.
  • The screenshot pop-up now keeps the focus until it is closed.
  • Trying to see screenshots of rides that included the ' character did not work.
Additionally, 'Under the bonnet' changes have been made to the Ridex skin to make it IPB v1.1.2 and v1.2 compliant.

I tried to add my site to your affiliates by using the page to register as an affiliate. My site name, "Fossil's Dig Site" returned an error message that "My site name is too long or too short" and that it cannot exceed 20 characters.

Thank you for your attention.

I think you've posted that in the wrong topic Fossil. Please try to regester your affiliate site again with the correct number of characters. You can PM me if this fails again.

Closing this topic. Ridex v1 is not being developed further as we prepare Ridex v2.
