Here's my 2p worth.

MySQL the free database server software with a PHP interface is an alternative to Microshaft SQL Server and ASP.

EasyPHP lets you install a webserver on your Windows PC. The download includes Apache as the web server, a PHP interpreter and MySQL database with PHPMyAdmin to manage the databases. It's a great way of learning PHP and MySQL without needing any web space. I have a copy on my PC to test out all of RCT2.com before I 'promote' anything to the site.

Zend where you can download a free PHP editor/debugger

WebMonkey Developers Resource full of great tutorials about all sorts of web subjects.

Mmm, we need some HTML tutorial and HTML editor links.

Yes please. I'm currently learning HTML at the moment and I am finding it really hard to understand and to come to terms with. So if you know any advice, tips or tutorials please let me know asap.

Thank you

That's won my approval! After using it last night with a very helpful person to talk me through it, I can fully appriciate the benefits this brings to the novice of PHP and mySQL.

I am in agreement with the rest of you. Except on HTML editor, I hope you're not talking about a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver. I personally started out doing all my HTML editing on Windows Notepad and them when I started Perl, I went to Wordpad and now that I'm on PHP, I use Textpad ( http://www.textpad.com )only because I like the quick ASCII reference, the line and character number readouts (EXTREMELY helpful for those pesky errors... Wouldn't want to have to count down to line 1376 [It's no fun, trust me], now would you? :) ), it's a relatively small download and it's shareware that doesn't shut off if you don't register it.

I'm not British, but if I were, that would be my two pence... ;)
