Kraken @ SWO

I've never been on Kraken, but its layout has always intrigued me. All throughout my history playing RCT 2, I always had a Kraken recreation in my inventory and had always used it for quick additions to parks I'm playing with. Its a very simple design, not much needs to be done aesthetically. The ride is compact, and the layout is kind of angular in that it'll fit perfectly in corners. This recreation achieves 65mph and about 1 minute 40 seconds ride time. The experience is one that has both terrifying height, rushing speeds, an array of inversions and geforces... Kraken is the full package, but what makes it useful is that its also very compact.

I tried using the small scale cobra roll instead of the bigger one, but it would pull more than 5gs. So as dopey as it looks, I had to use the larger to make it rideable. The building design is a bit tacky, not really my best work. Of course its loosely based off the actual queue line from SWO except mine has a bit lower profile. I wanted to capture the aquarium feel of the queue line with the dark tinted windows and aqua colored roofing. Lower profile buildings around Kraken accentuate how toweing it really is. Cool trick for parks that are maybe too small for hypercoasters.

I like this track because not a lot has to be done to make it exciting and realistic because Kraken is rather simple. There isn't a ton of scenic elements to it, and the track itself is conveniently compact. Very interesting scenes and even sections of the park can be designed around Kraken's first drop and the first 3 inversions. As seen in the screen shots, I like to map out water along the track and sometimes continue the cannal through to the second half of the circuit, incorperating it into the immediate scenery around places of track. A modified Kraken I was playing with dove the train into a cave where an entire cavern containing the corkscrew was submerged.

There it is! Easy to theme, easy to place and build around, very simple and successful roller coaster!

UPDATE:

So I wasn't too impressed with the first version, so I did some refinement and eventually got the smaller cobra roll placed and also did some adjustment to the second part of the course. In the first screens posted, the brake run was split up into two different sections, giving that portion of the track a more square/less angular look. I think the banked turn into the brake stretch functions more efficiently and looks more true to life. There was also some editing to the buildings that conceal the queue line. The buildings are bland, had to compromise to shave it down enough to save it. They're still low profile, loosely based on IRL buildings/aquarium...

For future reference - you can post images directly. You don't need to send people away to view your pictures. Because you use imageshack it is not as straight forward as it could be.

In your link options on your imageshack page containing the image, choose the direct link and copy that.

You then use the image link in the editor, and paste the copied link into the URL box when it comes up.

And there you go!

That was a great little tut, Sambo. I suggest putting that in the tutorials section.

Looks great, Darthsarthe, you have pretty good NCS.
