Disney's America was a theme park that was to be built by The Walt Disney Company in Haymarket, Virginia. After concept plans were drawn up for the history-based attraction in 1993, a huge legal battle began brewing over the "historic land" the park was to be built on. Michael Eisner wanted to proceed and poured millions into the project. There were to be seven distinctly themed areas;

The entrance area would resemble a Civil War era town, with the adjoining President's Square, where a reproduction of Independence Hall would house the famous Hall of Presidents.
Native American village, wth the river rapids ride.
Civil War Fort, with daily reenactments of battles.
Ellis Island, with a tour through the immigrant experience.
State Fair, with old time fairground rides.
Family Farm, I have no information on.
Enterprise, a factory town that would include a roller coaster through the industrial revolution.
And finally, Victory Field, where simulators would recreate WWII era planes in combat action.

The amusement park plans were finally scrapped on September 28, 1994, after Protect Historic America organized national opposition to the park. Interestingly, several of the ideas proposed for Disney's America were incorporated into the newest Disney park, California Adventure, including the Grizzly River Run.

I have done preliminary planning and map layout, and completed the Hall of Presidents area. Here are a few pics;

I am excited about doing this park, and intend to take my time. I hope you all enjoy this park that never was!

A quick update on the progress of President's Square.

Here's a look "backstage" at the show building for the Hall of Presidents. It currently houses a haunted mansion ride with very high capacity. You can see the show building on the right with the facade behind it. The Gift Shop sits in the center of the picture;

And the Gift Shop entrance. In the Disney style, the attraction exits into the Gift shop;

Posted Image

For sale in the Gift Shop are coonskin caps, copies of the Delaration of Independence, and toy soldiers, as well as the usual Disney bric-a-brac;

I hope the simple basic interior does something for the lag, but I doubt it!

Very, very nice! Independence Hall is fantastic, but I also like the Civil War Era streetscape...that looks very authentic because that period came before the excesses of the Victorian era, and the style was a lot plainer, and I think you've captured that perfectly. One thing I did notice, the bay windows on green clapboard building seem to sink into the walls a bit, maybe switch them for the one's that are slightly offset to bring the glass areas out a hair? No matter what, this is progressing really well...can't wait to see what's next!!

Thanks Wagi, I didn't even notice that! Sometimes it's good to have another set of eyes.

Here's the right side of the Civil War era Main Street;

The tram track is for the horse drawn trolley. Too bad we don't have one! We'll just have to pretend!

Enjoy!

Whoa! Your park looks great and detailed! Did you scrap Palisades or are you also working on it, citytrader?

I'm kind of at an impasse on Palisades. Not sure how to proceed, so it's "on hold"...

I actually have four or five parks in various stages, and pop back and forth.

Here's the start of the left side of the Civil War era Main Street;

Enjoy! Comments welcome...

awesome.
See, the good part of this, is that you don't have as many restrictions you would with, say, Epcot or Disneyland, where everything has to be pretty much the same as the original park.

Well, I do have a plot map of the planned park, and a dozen or so concept sketches of what it was supposed to look like, so I try to stay at least within the spirit of the park, considering the limitations of RCT3.

But yeah, I do have a little more wiggle room here!
